Tips to Motivate Your Child

Hi Parents!!
Hope you had a great day! The weather was nice here in good ol' Jersey. Just wanted to follow up on some tips to use to keep your children motivated...

1. Teach your children to set their own goals.

Setting their own goals means them being more interested in the outcome.
(These goals can be long and short term.) Follow up on the goals with a calendar checking off as they change or are completed. Goal setting can be used with school age children but younger children can also have goals that receive rewards.

2. Show your appreciation for your child.

Children need to know we are proud and that we are appreciative of them.
Of course most of us feel they should just do what we want them to do, but we could get better results if what we are asking of them, isn't just dictated to them, especially as they get older. Using language like "thank you so much for washing the dishes" or "I truly appreciate you cleaning  up your room" can show children we appreciate their effort. This can be used with every child and be age appropriate (like when younger children help put their toys away).

3. Show your children how to create positive images of success.

This can include having them make a vision board, (which can be a great assignment the entire family can enjoy together). Parents can also have children find pictures and words (in magazines or drawn by the child themselves) that motivates them and put the words and pictures on their bedroom mirror or wall.

These are just a few tips. Keep me posted on your success and Ill post other motivators again soon.

Have a great Thursday!
